Our Store's History 

It all started when Aunt Alice got a scooter and it changed her life.  At 87 she was no longer able to drive her car and had too much leg pain to walk much so she decided to purchased a new scooter.  That scooter made a world of difference to her.  She could again visit her neighbors, get her groceries at the corner store and spend time in her yard.  That 3-wheeled scooter safely carried her along the Minnehaha Creek paths, over to Lake Nokomis and all around her neighborhood.  One year she took it to the Renaissance Festival and rode it everywhere to see everything.  She proudly showed off her scooter and proclaimed "This is my new CAR; it gives me my FREEDOM back."

In 2001 Clarke and Linda McKinney took Aunt Alice's suggestion and began a mobility products store to help others find that same freedom.  The McKinney's live in White Bear Lake and could think of no better place for their store than the quaint downtown area.  The store name of FREEDOM CARS was a natural to fit Aunt Alice's proclaimation.

Our store's Objective 

FREEDOM CARS Mobility Store’s primary objective is to provide vehicles that can give independence to a person with mobility concerns.  These vehicles can range from a simple cane, to a walker or wheelchair, or to a lift chair, stair lift or ramp, or, of course, even to a scooter.

An important requirement for each person that works at Freedom Cars is that they are caring.  Every customer is cared for as a friend.
